We did it! An egg now has 18 million likes on the internet and counting, making it the most liked image….. wait why an egg?
Today was a historical day for Instagramers everywhere. Kylie Jenner lost her throne of most liked image (the one announcing her baby Stormi) to an egg….

The main question is why? Why did we choose an egg? The millennials everywhere who gathered behind the egg (myself including) will say “why not”, but thats a smoke screen for the real reason. We picked the egg for a few reasons. One being we realistically and emotionally can’t rally behind anything less generic than an egg! But don’t take that the wrong way… if it was a piece of white bread, it wouldn’t have made it. Maybe something like an empty box would have, but a picture of any person, place, or controversial thing wouldn’t have. Controversial meaning basically anything that people might have a problem with (i.e. religion, politics, race, gender, and gluten). The egg however is naturally occurring, sometimes a chick pops out, and sometimes we eat the yoke instead. It isn’t going to the polls and declaring its political beliefs, or religious standards. The color isn’t upsetting anyone, and it only dishes out salmonella if not cooked correctly. It’s a perfectly normal object that everyone can see and say “yea that’s ok, take my like”.
So why did people make an effort to like an egg? I’ll be honest with you… because it’s hilarious. This platform of perfection, the ultimate judgment zone, is all currently dominated by an egg. Previously Kylie Jenner had the title of most liked photo on the internet, which was fine, only maybe 1 out of 100 people even knew that, but she drips wealth and perfection

Now our primary social networking source is ruled by something we all currently have in our fridge and we all know it! In contrast, the Jenners / Kardashian are one of the most controversial families in the US. While some love them, most just love to hate them. They symbolize a lifestyle that the majority of us will never know, hence care about. Meanwhile there’s a social networking site that you post on almost daily (and put quite a lot of effort into I might add… there are girls who pose for 3+ hours for some of those pictures) and has ridiculous standards of “how many likes did you get? How many followers do you have? What should I comment?”. It’s exhausting sometimes, and can be a poor way to judge people, but while the Kardashian’s / Jenner’s reigned, there was no way to decrease the social standards of Instagram.
Saying all this, I don’t think anyone will take much notice of an egg becoming the most liked instagram post ever. I’m not saying that people will start caring less about the selfies they post, but I hope the hilarity of this situation will linger a bit longer then a day or two. I hope that when someone asks “how many likes did you get?” someone else answers “well an egg got 18 million and counting, so does it really matter?” and I think thats the attitude Instigram wanted.
Hence why we picked the egg; and yes Kylie is pissed about it.
I’ll leave that here for right now.
